Jason St Peter > Monday Morning Quarterback – Each and every Monday Coach Ross meets with parents and supporters to give a recap of the previous week and outline how he plans to prepare for this weeks opponent. He makes sure to stay until every question is answered. These sessions bring the parents closer to the game and give them a real understanding of why Coach Ross is doing what he does.
Jason St Peter > Tape Job – Andrew Cretini, Taylor Itz, and Justin Long get taped up before the days practice. Each and everyday players head to the training room to undergo this process which can at times be quite uncomfortable, especially if old bandages have to be removed for new ones to go on. The training staff for Cedar Park is composed of professional trainers as well as volunteer student trainers who help with everything from taping up players to setting up and maintaining the sidelines during the game
Jason St Peter > Taylor Itz shows of a recent turf burn. Before getting it taped up for practice. Scrapes, bruises, breaks, and tears are all part of the high school football season. While this scrape may look painful, players are very thankful if this is the extent of their injuries after a full season
Jason St Peter > Cedar Park Coach Carl Abseck warms his hands as his players start off practice going through their daily stretch routine. A cold snap brought cool tempatures and 30 mph winds to Cedar Park. Despite the high wind practice went on as scheduled. There was a renewed focus in the air as the players realize that poor practice could mean the end to their season.
Jason St Peter > The intensity level was taken to a new level among the coaches and players as they all knew what was on the line. Coach Ross makes sure his players know exactly how to run each and every play.
Jason St Peter > Every second of practice this week was even more important, with the #1 and #2 quarterbacks out with injuries. The coaches now had to break in a 3rd string quarterback Jamie Knight, who was their top wide receiver. With very little snaps under his belt, the coaches had a tough job to do but had confidence that Knight could step in and perform.
Jason St Peter > While practice is seriousness business it is impossible not to crack a smile. The energy and enthusiasm these kids bring with them to the field is contagious. Coach Ross enjoys one of these moments as he watches his players perfect their schemes for Friday night’s game.
Jason St Peter > Each and every morning of the week leading up to a game, the players have to gather early each morning to study game film before classes begin. Here, Cedar Park running backs study film of the Harker Heights defense to see if they can exploit any weaknesses.
